Horizon West

Amanda Henry

Principal Amanda Henry (5th - 6th grade)

Dr. Amanda Henry is the principal at Horizon West Middle School since 2021. Originally from Moorhead, Henry returned to Moorhead High School as an assistant principal in 2020. She began her career in education with Moorhead Area Public Schools as a paraprofessional and then as a teacher. For ten years, Amanda worked at Sheyenne High School as a social studies teacher, a MTSS coach, and spent the final five years as an assistant principal. The first in her family to graduate from a 4-year school, Amanda received her bachelor's degree in secondary education from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2005. In 2011, she completed her master's degree at North Dakota State University in educational leadership and in May 2020 she completed her doctoral degree in institutional analysis. Dr. Henry has a passion for working with kids and watching them grow, overcome challenges, and be ready to take on the world. Being able to give back to the district that gave her so much over the years makes her proud and humbled to be back in Moorhead. Dr. Henry lives in Moorhead with her husband, also a former Spud, and two kids.

Jeremy Lapka

Assistant Principal Jeremy Lapka (5th - 6th grade)

Jeremy Lapka is assistant principal at Horizon West Middle School. Lapka joined the Horizon Middle School team in 2021. He studied at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and has his bachelor's degree in elementary education, master’s degree in education and his principal licensure. Over the past 11 years, Lapka has spent time as a sixth and seventh grade math teacher, an upward bound tutor and an adjunct professor in middle school methods.

Tera Sistad

Principal Tera Sistad (7th - 8th grade)

Tera Sistad is principal at Horizon East Middle School, serving seventh and eighth grade students. Sistad has been in education for 18 years. She has her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She has worked as an assistant principal for six years and has previous experience in teaching and coaching. Sistad lives in Dilworth with her husband and two children.

Cory Holten

Assistant Principal Cory Holten (7th grade)

Cory Holten is assistant principal at Horizon East Middle School, serving seventh grade students. Holten received his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Morris, and his master’s degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He is currently pursuing his Doctoral degree from the University of North Dakota. Holten began his career at Horizon Middle School as a social studies teacher, math teacher and coach. Before re-joining Moorhead Schools, he spent the last three years as a dean of students/assistant principal/activities director at Ben Franklin Middle School in Fargo. In his free time, he enjoys golfing and spending time with his family.
