For the third school year in a row, Moorhead Area Public Schools and Family HealthCare’s Moorhead dental location are teaming up to bring mobile dental clinics to schools throughout the district.
Through this program, a mobile dental unit visits buildings on Wednesdays throughout the school year to provide both preventative care and dental treatment.
“Family HealthCare are innovators,” explained MAPS Health Services Supervisor Erika Yoney. “They had a mobile unit left over from the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic; when there wasn’t a need to use that vehicle for mobile testing anymore, Family HealthCare re-outfitted it to become a mobile dental unit with two full dental chairs.
“The district was looking for on-site dental services at the same time that Family HealthCare was launching this new unit—so we were lucky enough to partner with them on this project,” continued Yoney.
The mobile dental unit visits each school when enough students—approximately 12 to 16—have signed up to schedule a full day of appointments.
Family HealthCare accepts all insurance and has assistance available for students who are not insured.
Starting in the 2023-24 school year, Family HealthCare has moved to online signups for mobile dental unit appointments, though paper signups are still available from individual schools.
