The 16th annual Fill the Dome event is happening throughout the month of November and Moorhead Area Public Schools and the Moorhead High School Student Council are rallying donations from the community to benefit the Great Plains Food Bank.
“Fill the Dome is important to our area because it gives the youth a chance to give back to their community and make a difference,” said Maren Rygg, MHS senior class president and Student Council Fill the Dome Coordinator. “Since COVID-19, the Great Plains Food Bank has had a difficult time getting back on its feet to feed those in need. Fill the Dome is a vital part of ensuring the shelves at the Food Bank are filled and no one goes hungry.”
The food drive reaches district wide. Students and staff at all schools are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to their school to donate for the event. Collection will happen through Friday, November 17, with the Student Council delivering the items from all schools to the FARGODOME during the main Fill the Dome event November 20-21.
The community can support the student effort as well. Visit the Moorhead High School page on the Fill the Dome website to donate certain items or a specific dollar amount.
In addition to the virtual drive, the MHS Student Council has also arranged a fundraiser with ReShape Nutrition in Dilworth. Between November 13 and 17, fifty cents of each shake and tea combo will be donated for customers who mention “Moorhead Fill the Dome.”
“Our student leaders, particularly Maren Rygg and Brooklyn Van Nevel, have done an extraordinary job organizing this district wide food drive,” said Tina Bentz, MHS Teacher and Student Council Faculty Advisor. “This is a huge organizational feat, and they have been very thoughtful and intentional in their planning to make everything go smoothly. They understand how important this food drive is in our community, and want to make the biggest impact they can. We are very proud of their efforts.”
