As the 2023 calendar year winds down, Moorhead Area Public Schools (MAPS) is getting closer to the opening of Phase I of the new Moorhead High School. The district is inviting the community to have a first look at the new space via multiple events in December.
The first event, scheduled for Sunday, December 17, is the Academic Wing Preview. Guided tours will be given from 2 to 4 p.m. to view core classrooms, science rooms, collaborative spaces and the areas connected to the main commons. This occasion will be the first opportunity for members of the public to see the academic areas before they start hosting classes on January 4.
Members of the community will have an opportunity to view the athletic spaces of Phase I during the Moorhead Holiday Basketball Tournament on December 27 and 28. Following the 6:45 p.m. Boys Basketball game on Wednesday, December 27, a ceremony will be held to de-commision the current MHS gymnasium and commission the new, 3,000-seat competition gym in the new space. On Thursday, December 28, the first MHS Boys and Girls Basketball games will be played on the new court starting at 2 p.m.
“Once a Spud Always a Spud” merchandise will be available at all events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Moorhead Area Public Schools.
