Family Health Care (FHC) and Moorhead Area Public Schools (MAPS) are excited to announce the establishment of a school-based clinic on the Moorhead High School Career Academy campus. This clinic aims to provide convenient access to healthcare services for students and their families during school hours.
“At Family HealthCare, our mission is to provide high quality healthcare for every person, regardless of their circumstances. This new clinic exemplifies our commitment to breaking down barriers by offering innovative, compassionate, and accessible healthcare services. We are honored to partner with Moorhead Area Public Schools, whose commitment to the well-being of their students and community and forward-thinking approach make them an ideal collaborator for this important initiative. Together, we are expanding our shared vision of improving the health and well-being of MAPS students, their families, and the surrounding community. This clinic will provide essential healthcare services, fostering a healthier, stronger future for everyone we serve,” said Chief Executive Officer Margaret Asheim.
The clinic, funded in part by the Minnesota Department of Health, will be located at the MHS Career Academy (2800 27th Ave S, Moorhead) and will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. aligning with the MAPS schedule. If the school is open, the clinic will be open as well.
Clinic providers will diagnose and treat minor illnesses and injuries, in addition to administering vaccinations. High school students will be able to utilize the clinic via the shuttle system without requiring a parent’s presence, provided the parent has consented to services. Middle and elementary students may access the clinic when accompanied by a parent or guardian. If a student falls ill during school hours and is sent home, the clinic serves as a convenient stop on the way home for a quick diagnosis and potential treatment.
Mobile Unit Dental Services will also continue to be available for students during the 2024-25 school year. The mobile unit travels to each school to provide care onsite during the school day to minimize interruptions in learning. The Mobile Unit Dental Service provides cleanings, x-rays, exams, sealants and fluoride. Fillings and other restorative care can also be administered if necessary and with the approval of a parent or guardian.
“Moorhead Area Public Schools thinks holistically about the needs of our students, families and staff. This is a concept that the district has been envisioning for several years and we are thrilled to partner with Family HealthCare. FHC has been a strong partner in creating access to healthcare. Together we have built a strong dental partnership that has already created measurable improvements in student attendance. We are excited to see this clinic improve student health, attendance and wellbeing,” said Superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak.
The medical clinic is open to all MAPS students, staff and families. Medicaid and most major commercial insurances are accepted, and we offer visits for as low as $30 for those who qualify under our sliding fee scale discount program. MAPS will provide the space, including utilities and general custodial support and FHC will provide the staffing and medical supplies.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on September 23 at 4:00 p.m. at the clinic inside Door 4 of the Moorhead High School Career Academy. Moorhead Area Public Schools’ staff, families, and community are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.
