Moorhead Area Public Schools superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak paid a visit to S.G. Reinertsen Elementary to award the final Spud Spirit Award of 2024 to SGR Head Cook Sarah Score, who is in her 11th year with the district.
Dr. Lunak surprised Score with the award with a ceremony near the SGR office. He shared that her nominator said “Sarah’s job is to plan, prepare and provide nutritious meals to students each day, but what she provides to students and staff at Reinertsen is far more than nutritious meals.”
He then shared the story of the nominator’s son, who was nervous to try eating breakfast at school for the first time. “He was concerned about having enough time to eat before the bell rang. When the bell did ring shortly after he got his tray, he was shaken up. Sarah quickly reassured him and connected with his classroom teacher so she knew what was going on. This ensured that he got to eat breakfast and felt comfortable. Now he looks forward to heading to breakfast at school each morning!”
Sarah’s dedication to her students is a great example of how all MAPS staff members contribute to the district’s mission to develop the maximum potential of every student to thrive in a changing world.
