Moorhead High School Student Council is fundraising for the annual Fill the Dome event. Last year, the Moorhead community collected almost 28,000 food items. Student Council is looking to match or exceed that goal this year. Donations can be made Nov. 18 - Dec. 18 with multiple options for donation drop off or virtual donations.
Fill the Dome is an annual event in which local students collect food items with the goal to fill the entire floor at the FARGODOME (80,000 sq. ft). In June 2007, student council leaders from each of the Fargo-Moorhead area high schools formed the Metro Student Council Ambassadors. As a group, they wanted to do something big, something to highlight their senior year of high school. A couple of phone calls, lots of donations and few espressos later, Fill The Dome was born.
The impacts of that day are still being felt around the community and the momentum continues to grow. In 2012 the Great Plains Food Bank was able to hand out the millionth meal supplied by Fill the Dome. To this day, Fill the Dome has raised over 2.3 million pounds of food and over $553,000 towards ending hunger. This legacy of giving back is only possible through the passion of area students and the innumerable community supporters.
