Horizon Middle School welcomes Dr. Amanda Henry as a principal for grades 5-8. Henry joined Moorhead Area Public Schools in 2020 as an assistant principal at Moorhead High School. She has enjoyed her transition to Horizon Middle School.
Originally from Moorhead, Henry loves giving back and serving the school district and community that gave her so much over the years. Henry began her career in education with Moorhead Area Public Schools as a paraprofessional and then as a teacher.
As the first person in her family to graduate from a four-year school, Henry received her B.S. in secondary education from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2005. In 2011, she completed her master's at North Dakota State University in educational leadership and in May 2020 she completed her Doctorate of Education in institutional analysis.
Along with her passion for working with kids, her family is a large inspiration that pushes her to always be a better person. Henry lives in Moorhead with her husband, and fellow Spud, Matt, and two kids, Addi (8th grade) and Cam (4th grade). Henry enjoys being outdoors with her family and dogs, Remi and Izzy. She is spending some free time this summer golfing as well as quality time with her family swimming, wrestling and camping.
Henry is looking forward to spending some time relaxing with her family this summer, but knows it will go by quickly and soon the new school year will be here. She is also spending time transitioning, learning a new role and preparing for success as the leader of Horizon Middle School. She says, “I am excited to work with my admin team, all of the amazing teachers, support staff and fantastic students at Horizon. The 2021-22 school year is going to be great!”
