Congratulations to our newest graduate, Bryan, who rocked the GED testing process with us here at Vista Center for Education. We are very proud of him and wish him the best on his next chapter!

Time is running out to complete your GED diploma and snag a 2024 tassel! Contact your teacher if you need to get back on track to wrap up the last test or two to earn that diploma that you deserve. Our team is ready to help you!

Congratulations to the MAPS Paraprofessionals who have met the "Highly Qualified" status after completing the online Paraprofessional Training & Certification course through Moorhead Adult Education. These individuals worked hard and mastered the content in just 8 weeks. We are proud!

Thank you to Lisa Twomey and the Moorhead ABE team for bringing the Concordia & Adult Education students together this semester. The team has worked to connect our respective groups to share stories of our cultures, hobbies, and favorite things. We are truly thankful for the energy of this team to make it all possible!

Thank you to Dr. Colin Irvine, Concordia College President, for visiting Moorhead Adult Education today to see what an impact that Cobbers are having within the community. Both student groups are thoroughly enjoying sharing stories and making new friendships this semester. Today we did a mapping activity while learning about our personal journeys to the Moorhead community.

Congratulations to our newest graduate, Bain! He quickly powered through the process to earn his GED after just a few hours of online homework and a handful of visits to Vista. Our team wishes him all of the best on his next chapter. We are proud!

Laelia and Cynthia had so many things in common on their Venn Diagram that they needed to add more descriptors on the bottom of their page. Today was just the 2nd of 5 fall semester visits to Moorhead Adult Education for Dr. Lisa Twomey and her Concordia First Year Seminar class titled, "Unleashing the Power of Storytelling" . The rooms were filled with laughter as the pairs shared their talents, interests, and hobbies with one another. Each week will bring pairs together to respond to a new prompt and share stories. Thank you for facilitating the joy for our shared student groups, Dr. Twomey!

The Moorhead Adult Education students and staff are ready for the 2024 election. There have been flyers, bulletin boards, classroom lessons around the importance of civic engagement and the election process, online research to educate ourselves on candidates, and making sure that we know the location of our polling place on election day. In addition to the print and website research, Dr. Brandon Lunak, MAPS Superintendent, also visited our program to explain the levy item on the ballot.
If you still have questions, vote411.org or the Minnesota Secretary of State website (sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting) both have great resources.

Shout out to Abdikani! He has made tremendous academic gains on each of the Minnesota Department of Education required assessments in reading, language, and math in the short time that he's been enrolled with Moorhead Adult Education. In addition to his academic focus, he has also begun engaging in the Monday computer classes to earn Northstar Digital Literacy certificates that demonstrate his proficiency in the content. We are proud of you, Abdikani!

College...Is it for You? Several of the Moorhead Adult Education college-bound students were able to take in this TRIO Educational Opportunity Center presentation with Lori Mattison today. She makes regular visits to Vista to meet 1:1 with students or share a multitude of postsecondary focused presentations. Contact your teacher for more information on the upcoming TRIO visit dates.

Art Day! In addition to their time studying academics, digital literacy, and employability skills, Moorhead Adult Education students also have the opportunity to engage with art. A few of the potential benefits of art include: relieving anxiety, improving mental health, building self-confidence, reducing stress, and enhancing problem solving skills. Thank you, Susan, for sharing your time and talent with our students!

Each Monday morning, Moorhead Adult Education students at all levels have the opportunity to engage with digital literacy skills and distance learning platforms. The free Northstar Digital Literacy classes allow students to take an assessment and earn certificates to demonstrate their proficiency upon completion of the class. Talk to your instructor to get signed up for these classes!

Thank you to Dr. Lunak, MAPS Superintendent, for coming to our morning and evening classes to explain what a levy is and to help us better understand this item on our November ballot. A few of the morning students were able to get in on a quick picture with him.

No school for Adult Education students today because our staff is traveling to the the ABE North Regional meeting in Walker. Here are 4 of them who will meet with the Minnesota Department of Education ABE team, attend sessions with the Hamline University (ATLAS) trainers, and connect with other ABE staff from throughout Minnesota. Thank you to this crew who strive to make Moorhead Adult Education a great place to learn!

Monday mornings are for computer skills at Moorhead Adult Education!
Students at all academic levels have the opportunity to improve their digital literacy skills. There are multiple levels of Northstar Digital Literacy Skills classes that allow students to take assessments to prove their proficiency levels, opportunities to improve keyboarding skills, onboarding to distance learning platforms, and learning to navigate the internet for helpful resources. Talk to your teacher to see what opportunities are the best fit for you.

Adult Education is the place to be! So far this school year, there have been nearly 200 enrollments in the program with another 25 scheduled to attend the new student orientations next week. Students in the program take academic placement tests during the orientation session and are then enrolled into the corresponding level of ELL or ABE classrooms. These tests are repeated after every 40+ hours (of student attendance time) to allow individuals to advance through the program. Welcome to all of our new and returning students!

Shout out to one of our consortium teachers, Lynette Johnson, who teaches at the Wheaton site. Lynette has a great group of ELL women in her Wednesday morning classes. We are grateful to Lynette and all that she has done for the ABE program in Wheaton!

Join me in welcoming Vanessa Carrisalez as the newest member of our Adult Education team in Moorhead. She assists learners in the evening classes at Vista Center for Education who range from pre-literate English through college-ready academic levels. Welcome, Vanessa!

Moorhead Adult Education assists learners in their transition into training, postsecondary education, or the workforce. One of the ways we do this is through something called the Regional Online Career Collaborative (ROCC) classes. These are short online classes to offer skill building in a variety of areas including: preparing for the Minnesota Driver's permit exam, learning to write a college research paper, exploring career pathways, learning English specific to the healthcare field, taking a "pre" CNA course to be ready for the rigor of a CNA course, becoming a certified paraprofessional, and so much more. These free courses are offered to students enrolled with Moorhead Adult Education who meet the minimum academic score . Contact Tammy Schatz for more information at (218) 284-3460 or tschatz@moorheadschools.org.

Thank you to Matt Naugle and Rashid Hussein from Essentia Health for educating the Moorhead Adult Education learners about the variety of career opportunities at your organization. More than 50 students and staff enjoyed these presentations at Vista Center for Education today.
