Asp Families,
Happy Halloween! Well, not quite, but the popular holiday is this week, which always makes for an interesting week of school. That holiday, along with snow and cold weather, sets the tone for our notes below:
Halloween: As you all know and was noted above, Halloween is this week on Thursday. We know many kids will dress up in costumes that night to Trick-or-Treat, but please, NO costumes at school. Orange/black clothing is fine, as is Halloween themed clothing (provided it’s school appropriate), but no costumes or masks. Additionally, please help us, and yourselves, by not sending a bunch of candy with your child for snack or lunch. We know kids get super excited about their candy, but when handfuls of candy come to school it just leads to more trouble than joy. Thanks!
Weather: As a reminder, we go outside for recess and morning Active time all year, unless it is raining or too cold (air temps colder than 0, or wind chills colder than -10). Temperatures just below freezing or a little bit of snow will not keep us inside. Therefore, please make sure your child is coming to school ready for the outdoors, which could include winter coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and even boots/snow pants. True, it doesn’t seem pressing given it’s going to be 70 tomorrow, but it will be colder later in the week. And if you need help with any of the winter items we noted, please reach out to your child’s teacher so that we can do our best to help out!
Weekly Focus: I can be a kind friend! Being a kind friend was part of our discussion last week when we talked about ways to be our best self, so this is a natural next focus. Classes will talk about the importance of being a good friend, the qualities of a good friend, why listening is important, and how to resolve disputes with friends.
Pictures: As we noted midweek, Rick Westra will be at Asp tomorrow morning to snap photos of all students who didn’t get their picture taken during our original picture day at the beginning of September. We’ll have information for ordering photos if your child is one of those students. Additionally, if you ordered photos but weren’t happy with them for some reason, send them with your child on Monday morning and they can get re-takes.
StoryPalooza: Next week we have our first evening Family Engagement event of the year, StoryPalooza!! Kids and families have loved this event in the past so much that we’re excited to bring it back! This is another no cost event in which everyone is welcome! It will be on Thursday, November 7, from 5:30-7:00 pm at Asp!
Capital Projects Levy: Please check out the latest levy information graphic to learn more about the 2024 Moorhead Area Public Schools Capital Projects Levy.
Let’s have another great week as we leave October and move into November!
