Asp Families,
Happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a restful winter break! We definitely did as a staff, but now that we’re coming back we’re excited to get back to our routines and procedures and have a strong second half of the school year! Speaking of strong second half, the first of our weekly notes discusses what we’re going to do to come back strong:
Weekly Focus: We’re coming back from our two week break and focusing on the 4 BEs - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Kind! Examples include: using kind words when talking with classmates and adults, keeping hands, feet, and snow to self, listen to and follow directions, and work hard on any assigned task/work/job!
School Carnival: Our next PTAC meeting will be on Thursday, January 16, from 6:00-7:00 in Asp Media Center. We’ll be talking about possible recess equipment options and a possible spring carnival. We would love parent input and participation as it relates to both because they go hand in hand, so please consider attending. Spoiler Alert - A possible school carnival only works with a number of parent volunteers, hence the qualifying word ‘possible’. We have PTAC Board Members who can help provide guidance and support to volunteers, but they can’t run it themselves because it’s just too much. There is a lot of ‘Behind the Scenes’ work prior to any successful event that takes a lot of time and energy, so the more volunteers we have, the more likely we can make it happen. We also would need volunteers the night of a potential carnival, but we can usually find student groups and other organizations to help run games and events so that’s less of a concern at this point. Our main priority for this meeting is finding out whether or not we have enough volunteers to run a carnival because we would need to start the planning process this month.
Snow/Cold: January and February are the coldest months of the year. Please send all kids with cold weather gear for going outside. Also, please remind your kids to come inside first when they get to school because if it’s too cold (below 0 air temp or below -10 windchill) we won’t be outside for morning active time.
Semester End: This Friday, January 10, marks the end of the semester. Progress reports for elementary students will be available online in PowerSchool sometime after that, usually a couple of weeks. Emails will be sent to all families once progress reports have been uploaded into student documents, so watch for that.
District Budget: As the district begins the 2025-26 budgeting process, please share your educational values with us. Your input will help ensure the district's budgeting decisions reflect our students' needs, available resources and shared strategic priorities. The short prioritization survey will take approximately 2 minutes. Thank you!
Again, Happy New Year and welcome back! We look forward to an awesome first week of 2025!
Mr. St. Louis and Mrs. Knutson, principals
