Asp Families,
Happy Sunday! It’s the return of the 5 day school week and spring temperatures (at least later in the week). Below are some notes for this awesome week!
STEM Night: It’s Happening! This Week! We’ve extended our event by 30 minutes, so our new time will now be April 10, 6:00-8:00 pm (see flier). Remember, this is a fun night of FREE STEM activities at Asp! New this year will be a silent auction put on by our PTAC, as well as some food options for purchase. We’re super excited for this event and want you to make sure it’s on your calendar!
Weekly Focus: This week we’re focusing on apologies, both how to give and receive them. It’s super important to learn both because it’s how we repair relationships and move forward after any incident or disagreement, whether accidental or intentional. We’ll talk about the importance of owning our actions, as well as what we’ll do moving forward because while sorry is good, change is better!
MCA Testing: Testing starts this week for our 3rd and 4th grade students, and teachers in those grades have shared their schedules. And while we always want students to get great nights of sleep (9+ hours, no screens before bed, etc), healthy breakfasts, and be on time, it’s especially important this week for students in those grades. Tests don’t define students, but they are a good measuring stick in comparison to the rest of the state.
4th Grade Family Note: You are invited to Horizon West on the evening of Tuesday, April 15th, for a family information night. Please click this link for more information for this event. If you have not completed your 5th grade music registration for your student, please complete that now by clicking here. To learn more about Choir, Orchestra, Band and Exploratory Music classes, please check out this link. Please reach out to Horizon administration or music teachers with any questions. They would like all students to be registered before the end of the school year!
Excel: We have it this week, both Tuesday and Thursday!
Tornado Drill: This Friday we’ll conduct our mandatory tornado drill. We do this every spring around Severe Weather Awareness Week to practice in case of an actual tornado. We also have one more fire drill to complete this spring as well and will be scheduling them around the weather.
Children’s Mental Health Survey: The Clay County Local Advisory Council for Children's Mental Health is asking for feedback from community members on the unmet mental health needs of our youth. Please take a minute and fill out the short survey linked here. The results of this survey will be shared in a report to the Clay County Board of Commissioners in May. For your time, you will be entered into a drawing to win $25 upon completion of the survey!
As always, we’re still practicing our BEs and appreciate the support at home. It’s going to be another amazing week at Asp!
