mindset of yet

Our focus for the month of October at Ellen Hopkins is on a Growth Mindset. This means that you have a mind that is flexible and willing to experience failure to learn and grow.

It can be easy, even as adults, to have a fixed mindset- I am not good at this, I am bad at math, I can't do this. When things get hard, those with a fixed mindset may give up. They may use negative self talk and may decide to not try out that new hobby, learn about that thing that interests them, or not make that new friend.

With a growth mindset, you are focused on learning from your mistakes, giving things your best try- often over and over so you get better at it, and realizing that you just aren't there YET.

Being willing to take smart risks, try things even when you know you will fail, and sticking with hard things are all part of the growth mindset we are talking about with students this month.
