Hello Ellen Hopkins families,
My name is Danielle Peterson (Ms. Peterson) and I am the school counselor at Ellen Hopkins
Elementary. Listed below are the counseling services I provide:
Classroom Guidance
The Second Step curriculum will be delivered during the specials rotation. This
curriculum addresses important skills such as goal-setting, emotion management, empathy, and
problem solving. Additionally, depending on school, grade level, and classroom needs, I may
teach classroom lessons periodically to reinforce positive, prosocial behavior.
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is available at the request of parents/guardians, students, and
teachers in order to meet the needs of students encountering difficulties with academic, social,
or personal concerns.
Small Group Counseling
Groups provide students with an opportunity to receive support from peers with similar
situations and/or challenges. Group topics depend on the needs of students and may include:
friendship, anxiety, divorce, grief, and others.
Please contact me if I can be of help at any time throughout the school year.
Specific instances when you might consider communicating with me include: concerns or
changes in your child’s achievement or behavior, family changes, serious illness or loss of a
family member or close friend, and any circumstance in which it would be helpful to have
additional support at school for your child. I look forward to working with your student(s)!
