How do you make school lunches fun for kids? Let them dress up! Moorhead Area Public Schools celebrated School Lunch Hero Week May 1-5. The week included lunch staff and students dressing up to themes and administrators serving lunch to students. The goal of the week was to recognize the important role that food and nutrition staff play in the life of students.
Staff and students dressed up with unique themes each day from favorite fruits and vegetables to Superheroes. The wacky and awesome costumes emphasized the smiles and fun that characterize a student’s visit to the lunch room.
District and School administrators joined the fun by serving lunch to students and a few of them even joined the dress up fun!
Students shared their appreciation for the food and nutrition services staff at their schools in heartwarming ways.
Cathy Butenhoff, head cook at Ellen Hopkins Elementary reflected on the week with this note to her students, "Thank you for your beautiful pictures and letters. To answer some of your questions, we get up at 4:30 am every morning to get your breakfast and lunches ready. We love what we do and laugh a lot. We are as old as you think. Have a great day!"
Moorhead Area Public Schools is grateful for the dedication of the staff who serve our students their breakfast and lunch each day. Healthy food strengthens healthy minds and bodies and is an important part of the learning day.
