Elementary Schools 23-24 highlights

With the 2023-24 school year now behind us, we have some time to look back at some K-4 highlights from across the district!

In April, Dorothy Dodds Elementary unveiled an exciting and innovative addition to the main hallway: a book vending machine, known as Inchy's Bookworm Vending Machine. This vibrant and engaging machine is stocked with a diverse array of books spanning various levels and genres, ensuring that every student can find something to ignite their love for reading. What makes this vending machine truly special is that it exclusively accepts golden tokens, which students earn by receiving the prestigious Spuds in Action award. This award is given to students who embody "The Spud Way," demonstrating the core values and exemplary behavior that Dorothy Dodds Elementary strives for in its students. The introduction of this book vending machine not only promotes literacy and encourages a passion for reading but also reinforces positive behavior and academic excellence. It serves as a tangible reward system, motivating students to strive for their best and be recognized for their efforts.

2.  Ellen Hopkins Splatter Run 

At the end of the school year, Ellen Hopkins Elementary hosted an exhilarating and vibrant event the Splatter Run Bringing together students, staff and the entire school community for a night of fun . This colorful run was not just any ordinary race: participants were joyfully doused in a rainbow of paint splatters as they made their way around the track, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.   

3. S.G. Reinertsen Sock Drive 

A big shout out to the incredible students and families of S.G. Reinertsen Elementary! Their remarkable generosity and community spirit have truly made a difference as they donated an astounding 335 pairs of socks to Micah's Mission, an organization dedicated to assisting the homeless. This heartfelt contribution provided much-needed warmth and comfort to individuals facing challenging circumstances, especially during the colder months. The initiative reflects the core values of empathy, kindness, and social responsibility that S.G. Reinertsen Elementary instills in its students. The overwhelming response from the school community not only highlights their dedication to helping others but also sets a powerful example of what can be achieved when we come together for a noble cause.

 In October, the atmosphere at Robert Asp Elementary was filled with excitement as 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders came together for a memorable Inclusion Day organized in collaboration with HOPE Inc. This special event was a celebration of diversity and unity, where students enthusiastically engaged in a variety of inclusive activities and games. From team-building exercises to interactive challenges, every activity was designed to promote understanding, empathy, and camaraderie among students of all abilities. The day not only fostered a sense of belonging and acceptance but also highlighted the importance of inclusivity in creating a supportive school community. Robert Asp Elementary students embraced the spirit of togetherness and empathy, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.  

5. Dorothy Dodds Read Across America Fundraiser 

During Read Across America Week, the students at Dorothy Dodds Elementary accomplished something truly remarkable. They raised an impressive $5,850 for their Read Across Dodds Fundraiser! This incredible achievement highlights the students' dedication, hard work, and commitment to promoting literacy and fostering a love for reading. Their efforts not only brought the Dodds community together but also showcased the power of collective action in supporting educational initiatives.  The funds raised will undoubtedly make a significant impact, enhancing educational resources and opportunities for all students at Dorothy Dodds Elementary.  

6. Probstfield 4th Grade Leaders 

In the midst of the school year, Probstfield Elementary's outstanding 4th-grade leaders spearheaded an inspiring educational endeavor, leading kindergarteners through an enriching exploration of sinking and floating, alongside math and measurement principles. Utilizing pumpkins hand-picked from a local patch, this hands-on learning adventure not only ignited scientific curiosity but also cultivated a spirit of collaboration and mentorship across grade levels. The older students showcased exceptional leadership by crafting interactive experiments, guiding their younger peers in measurements, and prompting thoughtful discussions on the unique characteristics of pumpkins.
