Principal Message

SGR Families,

Happy Sunday! We’re trying something new today that we’ll likely continue for the foreseeable future, and that is sending this exact email twice. We’re doing that so we can share it with everyone in English, and then with everyone in their home language. We’re excited about this change, and wanted to let everyone know that it’s not a mistake when you get this email twice.

We have a lot of notes to pack into this short week, so let’s get to it:

  • No School: No school for students on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of this week (October 20-22)
  • Conferences: They are Monday and Tuesday night (5:00-8:30) and Wednesday morning (8:00-11:30). All students have one scheduled time, and you should receive a reminder email today or tomorrow. Schedules are tight so we don’t have much space for rescheduling, but if you need to try, please call Allana in the main office.
  • Lost & Found: It is set up in the main hallway near the office, and includes any and all lost and found items from throughout the entire building, so please check it out when you come for conferences.
  • Book Fair: Our PTAC is able to hold a book fair in-person this year! It’ll be set up in the media center, so please check it out. If you’re able, we’d love some volunteer help as well to make this possible.
  • I/E Time: One thing you’ll probably hear about during conferences is our new I/E Block of instruction. I/E stands for Intervention/Extension, and it’s a 30 minute block of time scheduled at each grade level. During this time, all students in a grade level will be flexibly grouped based on their specific needs, as identified by grade level teams (which include a literacy teacher, Special Education teacher, and an EL teacher) based on common formative assessments. Groupings will change every few weeks based on these assessments, again with the goal of meeting each student at their level. We’ll also be mindful of podding students from homeroom classes, so that we are minimizing close contacts. Our staff has worked hard the last three years preparing for this and are excited to start implementing it this year!
  • Goal Setting: Finally, we’re excited about our continued partnerships with families, which includes some shared goal setting this year. Teachers will review the Hopes/Dreams goal setting document from Back-to-School week with you, and have a discussion on how we can continue working together to accomplish those goals. We’ll have a quick survey regarding goal setting to gain your feedback on what is or is not working.

We’re excited to see you this week!
