Hello Families,
We know that children of any age thrive on routines both in school and at home. Creating a simple and consistent practice surrounding your child’s reading and/or homework assignments can be a valuable routine for everyone in the family.
A few areas you could consider when creating a routine that works best for your family:
When will we follow this routine? Immediately after school, after dinner, during breakfast?
Who will help to establish or monitor the routine? Will it be a parent, grandparent, older sibling, or caretaker?
What simple steps will you and your child follow?
If you are considering a homework routine maybe it includes: taking out the folder, reviewing any papers, working on homework in a consistent location, and then putting all materials back into the backpack when finished.
If you are considering a reading routine maybe think about the time and way it works best. Could it be during dinner prep, before bed, in the car, or with an older sibling? All reading is good reading, no matter how it looks!
Life happens, nights are busy, and you may not get to your established routine every night. That is ok, you can start it again the next day! Families are a child’s first and best teachers. We want to support you and your family to have a great school year.
