Principal Message

SGR Families,

Hello! Winter came back with a vengeance the last week or so, including snow again. Hopefully spring weather will be in our future soon for many reasons. Who knows though, right? We have just a couple of notes this week:

  • Boundary Area Changes: As you may have seen, last Monday the school board approved some boundary area changes to alleviate overcrowding at both SGR and Dodds Elementary. It’s always a little bittersweet when changes like this happen - on the one hand, we’ll miss every kid and family that will be going to a different school next year. On the other hand, we can’t go through another year with 750 students in 34 sections because it means music, art, and health/fitness on carts, while two PE classes share each gym all day long. Overcrowding also makes it difficult for classroom teachers to reach families during the school day because their space is used by the music, art, and health/fitness programs. We’re excited at the prospect of those programs having their own spaces again!
  • Boundary Area Exemptions: As those of you slated to move to Probstfield saw in your letter last week, as a district we expect that families will attend their designated school. However, we also know that sometimes there are exceptions needed and there is a process for that as well. If you feel you need to complete the boundary exemption form, please feel free to do so as outlined in that letter. Please do not email/call the office or your child’s teacher to share your reasons or request meetings because that is why we have the form. Please also note that it’s an exception, not the rule, which means that completing the form does not guarantee it’ll be approved. We know this is difficult, but as we outlined above, we needed to do something to alleviate the overcrowding.

Happy Winter, round 2! We are looking forward to seeing the kids back at school tomorrow!
