Principal Message

SGR Families,

Wow, November has had everything for weather in just the first two weeks! Hopefully this email finds you all well, safe, and warm. Ideally, our weather will start to be a little more consistent and less extreme the rest of the month.

Notes this week:

  • Thanksgiving: It’s hard to believe, but next week is Thanksgiving. We have a full week of school this week, but then only Monday and Tuesday next week. We’ll have our annual school-wide Turkey Bingo event at the end of the day next Tuesday. Students are working hard to show the 4 BEs throughout the school day, and we’re excited to reward them for great behaviors with this fun event. We’ll share more details next week, but in the meantime we appreciate your support by reiterating what it means to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Kind.

  • Bullying: We’ve previously noted this in our Counselor Corner, but we’ve spent a lot of time working with students to know the difference between what is bullying and what is not. Obviously neither is great, but we try to stress to students and families that we are an elementary school working with students aged 5-10 who are learning, growing and making mistakes. Our job is to teach all kids to read, write, do math, manage their emotions, show empathy, etc. In short, kids probably will mess up and make mistakes, which shows they are trying and provides an opportunity to learn and grow. It doesn’t always mean that they are a bully or are bullying someone.

  • Native American Heritage Month: On Tuesday we’ll have an assembly with drummers and dancers to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. We’re excited for this opportunity for all of our students!

Again, we hope you stayed warm and safe during the last few days. Remember, as long as the temperature is above zero and it’s not raining, our kids will be outside for recess. Please dress them appropriately, thanks!
