Principal Message

SGR Families,

Skol, Vikes! The playoffs start today (at least for the Vikes fans, but we can’t say the same for our Pack/Bronco fans) and we’re excited! Hopefully we’re just as happy in a couple of hours as we are right now. Regardless of the outcome, though, it’s been a memorable season. Additionally, while we joke around about fans of other teams, in reality we love that students/families cheer for a variety of teams. It’s great being able to kid around about it with our students. At the same time, it’s always a lot of fun to hear WHY students support/cheer for the teams that they do. Many students have a lot of pride in the teams they support, which is why we started Pride Fridays a number of years ago. It’s important to have pride in something, whether it’s a sports team, our school, a family tradition, cultural events, home states/countries, and even ourselves. We want students to have pride in our school, their classrooms, and everything we’re doing here at SGR, while maintaining pride in their home lives as well!

Notes for this week:

  • No School Tomorrow: Remember, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, January 16. We’ll see you on Tuesday!

  • Door 13: This door is only unlocked from 7:20-7:45 am. Once the bell rings at 7:45 we lock the door, and anyone arriving after that will need to enter through Door 1 on the east side of the building by our main office.

  • Skills Necessary for Learning: We’ve mentioned it before, but we work hard to not only teach our students academic skills, but also a wide range of skills needed to be successful in just about everything in life. This is reflected in our progress reports on the back page in which students are scored in six areas, like being a self-directed learner or a community contributor. Obviously these will look a little different at each grade level. Additionally, these are just a barometer at the midpoint of the year. Students marked as inconsistently or rarely demonstrating a skill have a great opportunity to improve and show growth during the second semester of school!

  • Family HealthCare Mobile Unit: Many of you noticed last week that the mobile dental van was in our parking lot. This is the second or third year our district has partnered with Family HealthCare to provide dental services at school. Unfortunately, they don’t perform walk-in care. Instead, they coordinate with our Health Services department, and then set a day to be at SGR once we have enough families signed up for the service. If you’re interested in more information, please read the linked flier.

It’s going to be another awesome week, let’s make it awesome together!
